Marilyn & Alain live in New-York, U.S., and they married in Moorea this past December. Their beloved family & closest friends all traveled from NY to Tahiti to join the celebration in Moorea.
Marilyn & Alain have been together for 16 years, and they first traveled to Tahiti in December 2005. They stayed at the magical and surreal island of Bora Bora back then, and in the morning of December 10th, exactly 11 years from their wedding day in Moorea, as they were treated to a breakfast delivered to their overwater bungalow by outrigger canoe, nestled right in the middle of the breakfast spread, was the ring waiting to be discovered by Marilyn.… Alain got down on one knee, and popped the question.
Marilyn could not stop laughing… “Losa, answer the question” he said, and of course she said YES!
Both have very busy lives and they ended up being engaged for… 11 years! They truly fell in love with the destination back then so no surprise that they wanted to marry in Tahiti, the place where Alain proposed, and to have their guests fall in love with the place just like they did!
I wrote and officiated their ceremony which was of a Western-style, including some wording in French as they’re both from Haitian descent so most of their family members spoke some French, a wrists’ tying with a Ti leaf, a plant sacred to Tahitians, as well as a sand ceremony ritual.
Marilyn walked down the aisle to “Canon in D” (Pachelbel) played by Per-Olov Kindgren, and they recessed to “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Israel “IZ”.
A beach cocktail followed the ceremony and they then had a 4-course seated dinner, a wedding cake and a DJ party!
Did I mention the fire dance entertainment?
Just wanted to drop you a note to say “merci, un million de fois” for planning and officiating our exceptional wedding. It was truly a pleasure meeting you in person after months and months of preparation via email. Your attention to detail was impeccable and was “une chose incroyable et exceptionnelle”. Our family and friends truly enjoyed themselves and were thoroughly impressed with the how flawless the entire weekend passed. We could not pull it off without you! We know that there were many ‘behind the scene’ things going on that truly made it a special day for us and enjoyed every minute of our time while in Tahiti. We also truly appreciated your patience with us while we planned during our busy lives.
