It’s been a while since I last presented a wedding vendor whom I have already worked with, and whom I want you to get to know as well, on the blog.
WEDDING VENDOR OF THE MONTH: ANGELM
ISLAND PHOTOGRAPHER IN TAHITI
This month’s wedding vendor interview is Angélique from AngelM Island Photographer, a self-taught photographer in Tahiti who is also available to travel to any island. Enjoy!
Tell Us A Bit About Yourself And What Led You To Wedding Photography In Tahiti.
I’ve been enjoying French Polynesia for almost 15 years now! I first fell for the islands while working on cruise ships around the world and visiting Tahiti. I seized the opportunity to work in Tahiti and took a chance on settling down. Photography in Tahiti has come naturally, I mean when you’re traveling a lot and you live in such an aesthetic paradise, it’s difficult to refrain from wanting to capture the culture and beautiful colors.
How Do You Work With A Couple And What Is The Process Of Planning Wedding Photos?
I am lucky to be working with a Wedding Planner most of the time; you just cannot leave the planning of a wedding ceremony to chance, and a Wedding Planner is your point of contact as well as your vendors’ go-to person. With a Wedding Planner everything is coordinated in a smooth and professional way which is invaluable for a couple who feels confident and relaxed… which in turn translates to photos! Planning a photo shooting can start anytime, sometimes it’s 6 months ahead and sometimes it’s just a week out for the more adventurous!
What Inspires You? Are There Colors Or Trends You Absolutely Love?
I like the photo journalistic approach whenever possible. I love pastel colors, soft and matte tones. It does not prevent me from capturing high contrasts of course that highlight the bright blue colors of the lagoon, or the vibrant greens from the mountain, or multicolored plumerias! Ideally I’d love to be looking at my pictures some day and think they could fit in a magazine, fingers crossed!
What’s Your Favorite Part Of The Job?
My favorite part of the job is to meet new people all the time, and being able to share a special moment with them, hear about their story, sometimes those stories are worth a romantic comedy! Knowing how important you role is in capturing the day puts some great pressure on yourself until the photos are delivered, but it is such a fantastic feeling when you hear back from the couples and they say they cried (of joy of course) and loved the photos! Mission accomplished!
Any Advice To Pass Along To Couple About Choosing Wedding Outfits, Props And Shooting Style?
My recommendations? Feel at ease with yourself, on your heels or barefoot, feel confident and beautiful! Props? Why not, it can be fun but not overdoing it, and props can be used to express the couple’s personality. It’s an important day, so be confident and in love! There’s nothing better than a couple who has fun on their wedding day, not shy of letting emotions out, and who’s relaxed. I feel lucky to be a witness of couple’s wedding, and it’s always an immense pleasure to be immortalizing those special moments.
